What is Data Communication?

Data communication refers to the transfer of data from one device to the next via a transmission medium. It can be done via wired media such as twisted pair wire or coaxial cable, or wireless mediums like radio waves or optical fibers. The data must first be encoded, encapsulated and transmitted by the device transmitting it, before being decoded and removed from the device that is receiving it. This procedure is similar to analog signal transmission, but it is more complex and concentrates on binary data (1s VDR options and 1s and).

To boost efficiency within an organization, companies are using data communication to share data more effectively with dispersed users. To ensure that inventory is in line with demand and reduce the amount of waste produced, an automotive manufacturer was required to relay data to 6’000 untrained spare part dealers scattered. This required communication using a network not optimized for data transfer and the use of a mobile app that was difficult for non-technical users to navigate.

Effective data communication starts by understanding your audience and how they see the data. It is about creating visuals to help tell the story and provide context-based information. It is also about articulating information in a clear, concise narrative. It also involves adjusting the content to specific audiences according to their hierarchy, technical knowledge and interest level. It also means breaking the boundaries of creativity to make data-driven communications more impactful and memorable.
